Upcoming events:

11th - 12th September - Dromineer
Fun day & Branch Meeting.

Games, raffle, competitions and fund raising activities for the young and not so young.

BBQ (bring your own food).

The September branch meeting will take place in the Marquee followed by an evening of good company and singing.

Guided walk around Dromineer by Declan from the hostel on Sunday.
The hostel will also be open for cooked breakfasts on Sunday morning and will have showers available for a nominal fee.

Photo Competition:
Open to all Derg Branch members.
There are four categories:
Scenic, Nature, Sports and Boating Life.
This is to encourage you to get your cameras out this year! - no old 'stock' pictures please.
There will also be an open category (any of the four subjects above) for anyone under 18 by the closing date of 15th September 2010.
The winners will get their pictures published in a branch calendar that will be created from these images, plus there will be a winners cup for the overall winner.
The winners will be chosen by an independent judge, and notified in the October branch meeting.

Please Note: - Limit of one picture per category per person.

Recruitment Drive:
There is a €200 fuel voucher up for grabs to the member who recruits the most new members this year.
To help you in your quest you may like to display one of these posters (from the links below) in your vessel while moored in a public harbour with some application forms.

MARINE NOTICE No. 4 of 2010
Aids to Navigation Colour Change
Portumna Bridge to Meelick Lock
Waterways Ireland wishes to advise all Masters and users of the Shannon Navigation that the black starboardhand marks on the Shannon Navigation are to be changed to the colour green. This will be done on a phased basis commencing initially on that stretch of the navigation from Portumna Bridge to Meelick Lock. Mariners will be advised accordingly as the work progresses.

SHANNON NAVIGATION - Limerick Moorings - Restricted draft
WI has advised (MN#29 of 26/4/10) of reduced draft below weir level at moorings in Limerick. Custom House Quay: 0.5m at inside moorings, 1.3m at outside moorings. Arthur Quay: 1.2m

SHANNON NAVIGATION - Kylenoe mark back on station
WI has advised (MN#20 of 3/3/10) that the Black Starboard Hand Mark "G" on the Kylenoe Rocks on Lough Derg has been but back in the correct position. MN#12 has been withdrawn.

SHANNON NAVIGATION
ATHLONE TO PORTUMNA
SHANNON ONE DESIGN SAILING RACE
SAT 26TH AND SUN 27th JUNE 2010
Waterways Ireland wishes to advise Masters and Owners that this annual long distance sailing race will commence at 10.00 hrs on Sat 26th from Athlone Lock, overnight at Banagher and finish at Portumna Bridge on Sun 27th Jun 2010.
Masters of all craft should note the provisions of bye-law 12 of the
Shannon Navigation Bye-Laws, 1992 , in particular section 12(5):
(5) Other vessels and boats shall give way to vessels and boats
navigating by sail only. A vessel or boat navigating by sail only shall not hamper other vessels or boats.

MARINE NOTICE No.46 of 2010 ALL NAVIGATIONS
LOW WATER LEVELS CAUTIONARY WARNING
Waterways Ireland wishes to advise all masters and users of all navigations that water levels have fallen in recent weeks.
Masters of vessels, particularly those with deep drafts, are advised to proceed with due caution and prudence when navigating the waterways.
